New Roof!

The roofers showed up!

 And so did this.

Giant hound dog who wanted to adopt us.

But he was huge and stinky and slobbery and we already have a dog, so we said no.  He followed my parents home on their walk, and they took him back to his house ( in the car) once they got home.

On to the roof!

That plywood there leaning against the house was put there to protect the watermelon plant that's there.   That plywood was in our garage for a project of ours.  Oh well. They'll give it back.

Ripping off the shingles.

It seems to be coming along well.

They're working on only two sections of the roof today. They don't want to uncover the whole thing and then have it rain!

On the plus side, it's been pretty cool, so it's not too hot up there for them!

  1. Your pictures remind me of when we had our roof done. The most memorable thing that happened then was my grandma getting up there to help out! She's a hard worker, but I never expected her to climb up onto the roof! I must say, it's an amusing memory.

    1. Wow, I wouldn't think the roofers would have let her do that! Sounds dangerous. :)

Must have been fun/scary to see.

  2. Well, the roofers were relatives of ours, so maybe that explains things, maybe not. Also, I think rain was approaching and they needed help covering stuff up. Whatever the case, it was both funny and scary! :)

  3. Such big house you have, Amanda! And it looks magnificent despite the roof replacements. Have you decided on the roof color? Well, the green one looks good, too. But, it would be nice if you use other colors such as blue or red. It will definitely bring some character into your house. However, I think your house will look wonderful whatever color you pick.

    1. Elizabeth, we went with a green roof because we liked how the old roof looked. It also matches the shutters I /just/ painted a month ago or so.

And we like the green against the red brick and white siding.

  4. Are there any updates? It looks like your roof went quite well. One tip to prevent moss growing on your roof and avoid roof damage is for you to either sweeping the moss directly away or by first applying a roof moss killer product. Do not use a yard moss killer. Roof moss killer products are available at local hardware stores. Be sure to ask your roofing aides for advice on what product could be most appropriate for your type of roof.

    1. Hello Max,

The roofing went well, thanks. Fortunately, we have no problems with moss! There are no trees near our roof and it's not very wet where we live. But thanks for the advice. :)

  5. Hello Amanda, I think why Max was concerned about the moss is that though there are no trees near your roof, there are trees near your house. The spores that grow into moss are basically air borne and all they need is a damp place to set and some nutrients. So there. : ) Best to still watch the roof for any trouble whatsoever.

  6. The green roof looks good, Amanda. :D It definitely is a great choice. Did Sandy bother you, by the way? How are things going? I hope everything’s fine with you, and the roof is holding up nicely, especially this winter season. Also, be sure to patch up any damage sustained by the roof to avoid further damage to the whole structure.

    1. Sandy did not bother us. We're far from the east coast =)

  7. Good thing no one got hurt in the making of that roof. : ) Be extra careful when doing repairs on your roof, and always watch your step. No one wants to be burdened with repairs and a hospital bill. :D
