Duct Tape

Everyone loves duct tape, right? It's so useful and one can make wallets out of it!

 Anyway...

How'd I get on this subject?

When we were going to get paint for the shutters, I sent a piece of extra shingle from our roof with my mother so she could have them match the paint to that color.  The extra shingles are currently residing under our house's crawl space and I went to retrieve them

Another project I need to do - paint that crawlspace door!

See? Shingles
When I opened the door to the crawl space, a blast of cold air hit me. It felt like a refrigerator down there!

Not. Normal.  Not good, either.

So I told my dad about it and the next day we went crawling all about under the house looking for a leak in the ducts. We found two, but here was the major one, right near the opening.

There's a vent leading into the house there and whoever cut the floor boards cut the opening about 6 inches too big, so there's about 3 inches all around that pipe that is sending our nice air conditioning down into our crawl space!

So we stuffed rags into the opening and duct taped them in place. Voila.   And we duct tape the duct where a hole was, too.

That's pretty much the extent of my handyman skills. At least it's fixed.

So duct tape. Many uses, some most normal people wouldn't think of, but hey. It actually works on ducts. Who would have thought?

  1. How dare the crawl space steal your air conditioning! :) And you used Duct Tape to fix a duct? Who'd have thought! :)

    1. I know, right?

Yes! It's proving to be not enough, though, so we got some of that expanding foam and when we get back from Florida, we're going to put that in. :)

  2. We did that when our drier broke. I think we had a pipe that was supposed to take the hot air outside but it had a huge hole so we duck taped it. I think it’s still duck taped! Whoever invented duck tape was a genius!
